My final project - please check it out and comment

My project was to create a site where cytology educators could go to collaborate and share their photos, tests, lectures, ideas, and problems. I made CytologyEdwiki for this purpose. The limitations of the site meant that I needed to also establish places for data on slideshare.net (for PowerPoint lectures) and Googledocs (to share test questions). Both of these sites are available from the wiki.

The Tech Trap | always learning

Here is something new I am trying - I found an interesting post on a blog I was reading and discovered that I could link to the post itself by clicking on a linking button at the bottom of the post. It was easy. You will notice that I have not figured out how to embed the post so that it opens as a new window and allows you to return to my blog. Hmmm.

The reason I wanted to share this with everyone (although no one is reading my blog it seems) was that it had some interesting things to say about how easy it is to get overwhelmed by all of the new technology out there for education. Most of us need to take it slow and really get comfortable with a FEW innovative methods instead of leaping from exciting tool to exciting tool. And we need to expect our co-workers or students to experience the same overload.

In my search for interesting blogs about education I kept seeing this blog listed as a favorite on many sites. I checked it out and was intrigued by David Warlick's technological savvy and the variety of ways he has involved the readers/contributors/collaborators who visit his blog. He has done many interactive things including Second Life, audio files, an almost wiki-like invitation to collaborate on Big Ideas 4 Education, a project regarding educational priorities, etc. See what he did with Eluminate to demonstrate coopertative information environments. I wonder how those of you in training and development could use a tool like that with your remote sites.

Learning more and more that will help my wiki

I have found a potentially great resource for my wiki. As you have read before, I was so frustrated that educators were not going to be able to post their PowerPoint lectures on the site. Now I have found slideshare.net! It is a location where people can post their slide shows and we can link to them from the wiki.

Wiki better

I have figured out how to handle my plan to let people put their lectures on the Wiki to share. It won't work to put the actual PowerPoints on there because of limited space, but I can have people just list the lectures they would be willing to share and have them post their email so others can request lectures be sent to them via email.

I haven't had time to work on the wiki (or this blog!!) much because my new job has been pretty overwhelming since I started. Since class is next weekend I had better really hit it this week!!!
